The Republican Maritime Union (RMU) represents the professional interests and welfare of maritime workers and seafarers across India. RMU is a bona fide, democratic, and independent trade union committed to safeguarding the dignity, rights, and future of its members serving throughout the global maritime industry. We strive to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, fairness, and welfare — ensuring that Indian seafarers receive the recognition and respect they deserve for their invaluable contribution to world trade and the Indian economy. RMU actively collaborates with national and international maritime bodies, shipowners, welfare organisations, and training institutions to promote a safe, secure, and sustainable seafaring profession.

RMU seeks strong partnerships with internationally recognised maritime federations, welfare bodies, and trade unions while maintaining complete independence, transparency, and accountability in all its affairs.
The Union upholds the core principles of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006, and supports the initiatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to promote decent work, safety, and fairness in the global maritime sector.
To safeguard the professional, social, and economic interests of its members.
To ensure fairness in employment, wages, and working conditions in accordance with international maritime standards and the MLC 2006.
To promote dignity, equality, and respect for Indian seafarers across the global shipping industry.
To prevent and protest against all forms of discrimination, exploitation, or injustice and provide full legal and welfare support where required.
To negotiate and conclude collective bargaining agreements with national and international shipowners and management companies.
To establish welfare schemes and emergency assistance funds for members and their families.
To promote continuous professional development through training programs, seminars, and collaborations with maritime academies.
To collaborate with global seafarer organisations and maritime welfare institutions to enhance quality of life and safety at sea.
To encourage and empower women seafarers, ensuring equal opportunity and professional respect within the maritime community.
To uphold ethical values by discouraging corruption, indiscipline, or practices that undermine seafarers' unity and integrity.
To engage in constructive dialogue with the Government and stakeholders to strengthen the Indian maritime sector and promote seafarers' employment worldwide.
